Greater Manchester Police (GMP) reportedly sent two cases to the Independent Office for Police Conduct that were related to her concerns.

They have to do with the 38-year-old’s incarceration in February 2021 at Pendleton police station.

She was reportedly detained for 40 hours, according to Sky News.

But it was asserted that three hours of the tape that had been shot of her was lost, and examination of her medical records revealed signs of sexual assault.

Three women, including the complainant, have accused GMP of conducting unlawful strip searches following arrest. Mayor Andy Burnham has called the accusations “serious and distressing.”

Any misbehavior by GMP employees has been refuted.

According to the IOPC, it first got a re-report of issues from May 2022, which it directed GMP to examine locally, while the other referral contained fresh claims about the woman’s treatment in detention that had not before been brought to their attention.

The local community and the general public will definitely have been disturbed by these extremely serious charges, according to regional director Catherine Bates.

“Their seriousness prompts understandable worry and has the potential to erode trust in law enforcement.

“We have determined that an independent inquiry into the claims is necessary in view of the fresh evidence we recently received, the major media attention generated, as well as a request from GMP.

“We will be requesting a copy of all available video evidence to help us with our inquiries, and we are aware of footage of the woman’s incarceration that has been extensively circulated.

“Our inquiry, which will be in-depth and independent of the police, will look at the type of interaction the woman had with officers while in detention and help us comprehend what took place on the night in question.

“We have contacted the woman to explain our role and will keep her informed as our inquiries develop,” the statement reads.
