John Terry’s appreciation tweet towards Russian billionaire Roman Abramovic was met by strong opposition from Labour MP Chris Bryant.

Terry, who enjoyed a very successful spell at Chelsea under the ownership of Abramovic, took to Twitter on Thursday, March 3 to hail the Russian billionaire for the contribution he brought to the club since the takeover in 2003.

He posted a picture of himself lifting the Premier League trophy alongside Abramovic with the caption, “The best”.

The post has since received more than 10,000 retweets, and thousands of comments, including one from Bryant, who was not impressed with the Chelsea legend.

“This is appalling,” Bryant tweeted.

“I think John Terry you should take this down ASAP. The people of Ukraine are being bombed, shelled and murdered while you celebrate Abramovich.”

Despite having ties with Russia President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, Abramovic is a household name among Chelsea fans, who consider him an important part of the club’s history.

Since taking ownership of the club in 2003, Abramovic has overseen tremendous success with Chelsea, winning a total of 21 trophies. Notably, Chelsea has now won every trophy imaginable in club level after the recent success at the Club World Cup.
