“Igbo man Kenneth Nnebue produced Yoruba films before penning the script for ‘Living in Bondage’ in 1991–1992.
“Before that, there was no disputing the Yorubas’ ownership of the cinemas, but only foreign films were purchased by consumers to see in their homes. As soon as Kenneth Nnebue released “Living in Bondage,” it went viral and practically everyone bought into it. As a result, home videos became popular and profitable.
“Some people quit their previous jobs to make investments in the film industry. What we now know as Nollywood began with the release of “Living in Bondage,” he claimed.
