The government of Lagos State has started demolishing the marketplaces near train stations.

The Lateef Jakande Train Station was the first to be demolished as part of the Lagos State Building Control Agency’s ongoing demolition action on Saturday at 10:20 a.m.

The team then proceeded to five further stations to carry out the deconstruction exercise, freeing traders from the rail tracks so that the trains could pass through with a clear path.

Iju Railway Station, Ebute-Metta Railway Station, Yaba Railway Station, Agege Railway Station, and Mushin Railway Station were among the additional stations.

Our reporter was present as law enforcement personnel used sledgehammers and cutting tools to knock down shanties, pull stretched walls near to the road, and throw items from makeshift shops and tables.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, had earlier given vendors selling their wares next to train tracks a two-day deadline to remove their stalls.
