LAWMA MD- Residents and merchants who unlawfully dump rubbish will face legal action

Laws pertaining to environmental protection mandate that marketplaces keep a clean and hygienic atmosphere. It is expected of them (traders) to keep the markets tidy every day. It is expected of them to supply waste management containers. In addition, we charged them and provided them containers. The Private Sector Partnership (waste collectors) is expected to be funded by them.

Although it is against the law for them to carelessly dispose of rubbish, many of them do so in front of, within, and outside of markets as well as in drains. For the sake of everyone’s health in Lagos, it is our duty as LAWMA to make sure that all individuals, companies, and homes handle their trash in an ethical manner. Therefore, we don’t want to tolerate any market—especially the food markets—that improperly manages garbage since it puts the health of Lagos residents at risk. Therefore, it’s for your health. There is a clear link between environmental concerns and well-being.
