It is inaccurate, according to Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, that members of the Assembly are split on the motion to remove Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the state’s deputy governor, due to allegations of serious misbehavior.
It was stated that a disagreement among the Ondo MPs caused a stall in the impeachment procedure.
In a statement released on Friday, eleven Assembly members—two of whom were principal officers—disassociated themselves from a recent letter to Justice Olusegun Odusola, the chief judge of Ondo State, requesting the formation of a panel to investigate Aiyedatiwa.
After the involvement of the ruling All Progressives Congress national leadership in Abuja, the Ondo legislators had earlier said they were dropping the impeachment proceedings against Aiyedatiwa. This was approximately one week prior to the new letter to the CJ.
The 11 legislators insisted that the Assembly had abandoned its plans to impeach the deputy governor and claimed that they were taken aback by the news of the new letter to the CJ.
However, Majority Leader Ogunmolasuyi emphasized in a speech over the weekend that the House will not waver in its resolve to look into and impeach the deputy governor.
