Abdullahi Haladu has been charged with land fraud by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Kaduna Zonal Command.
In a statement issued by the Commission on Friday, it was stated that Haladu and Kabiru Liman (who is still at large) planned to swindle one Sani Isyak of N1,550,000.
On “three-count amended charges bordering on conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence,” the suspects were charged at their arraignment.
After the allegations were read to the defendant, he entered a not guilty plea, which prompted M. Lawal, the prosecutor, to request a trial date. In addition, he called for the defendant to be placed under detention at Kaduna Correctional Center.
Charles Ojijiemeh, the defense attorney, filed an oral bail request in the interim. Lawal protested, saying the suspect had breached an administrative bond the commission had granted him. Additionally, he insisted that Ojijiemeh be made to submit a proper bail application.
“After hearing their arguments, Justice Khobo remanded the suspect in the Kaduna Correctional Center and postponed the case until October 30, 2023, for a hearing on the plea for bail.
