Massimiliano Allegri ‘Turns Down Two-Year Contract To Be The Next Borussia Dortmund Manager’

Massimiliano Allegri has reportedly rejected an offer from Borussia Dortmund to be their next manager.

As of today, July 1, Allegri is no longer under contract from his previous spell at Juventus, and has taken the last year to spend time with his family after 12 years without a break from coaching.

And according to Sky Sports Italia, Dortmund have offered Allegri a two-year deal to take over from Lucien Favre, but the Italian coach has turned it down as he is set on a move to the Premier League.

The report details that it is Allegri’s dream to coach Manchester United and he is said to prefer a move to England for his next coaching step.

However, the 52-year-old is keeping his options open, after his five-year stay at Juventus – in which they won the Serie A title in every season he was at the club – came to an end last summer.

However, he failed to win the Champions League, despite reaching the final in 2015 and 2017, when the Old Lady lost out to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

Allegri has previously coached a host of top-flight Italian clubs, including AC Milan, Cagliari and Sassuolo, as well as Juve more recently.

Current Dortmund coach Favre joined Dortmund in 2018, originally on a two-year deal and the Swiss coach extended his contract last year until 2021.

Earlier in the week, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc seemed to confirm that Favre would remain the club: ‘We will be entering the new season with this lineup.’

Meanwhile, Allegri has been linked with the hot-seat at both Arsenal and United before.

He received a glowing tribute from Sir Alex Ferguson in 2017, who said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport that Allegri was the ‘best Italian coach, capable of giving Juventus defensive and offensive solidity.’
