The Awka Capital Territory Development Agency’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ossy Onuko, is rumored to have had some unidentified escorts attack a commercial driver on the road on Friday for overtaking their convoy.
The incident allegedly occurred at the UNIZIK Junction in Awka, Anambra State on Friday afternoon, when the escorts were seen hitting the driver, according to the viral videos that went viral on Friday.
Following the viral recordings, a number of locals denounced the action and urged state governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to warn his appointees, arguing that their behavior did not represent them as “responsible public office holders.”
In response to the recordings, a local and human rights advocate further urged the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police for the state of Anambra, the Department of State Services, and all human rights advocates to rescue defenseless civilians.
Christian Aburime, the press secretary for Soludo, responded to the news late on Friday by clarifying that the incident happened on an Awka road and that the commercial driver was observed to be operating in a “reckless” manner.
