According to President Bola Tinubu, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, lacks merit, substance, and good faith in his plea.
According to Tinubu, who claimed that Obi’s appeal was rejected by the election petition tribunal because it was based on claims, the presidential election was held peacefully nationwide and the results were meticulously and precisely recorded in the various EC8As.
This was stated in a statement provided by his principal attorney, Wole Olanipekun, SAN, in response to Obi’s appeal against the tribunal’s ruling.
He pointed out that Obi had not met the legal burden of proof for his claims of noncompliance and corrupt behavior.
“Instructively, however, the lower court, realizing that it is not a court of last resort, proceeded to decide the petition on its merits, while itemising several monumental failures of the petitioners to provide any evidence in support of their much-touted case,” Tinubu stated.
However, Tinubu asserted that the tribunal’s decision was appropriate, stating further that “the appellants have brought this appeal against the well-considered judgment of the lower court.”
