This revelation was made by the artist during a podcast interview with Tea with Tay. He stated that up until he was forced to abandon out due of cults, he was continuously reading his books and studying his Bible.
He said, “During my university days, I was always in the church reading Bible and books. Then I dropped out in my final year. I’ve never said this before. I dropped out when some boys were trying to make me join gang.”
Oxlade claimed that the cultists were persistent in their efforts to get him to join them. He continued by saying that God had intervened just in time for him because the cult members had gone looking for him in his hostel not long after his grandmother had begged him to return home. When they were unable to locate him, they pounced on his companions and injured them critically.
“One day, my grandmother called and asked where I was,” continued Oxlade. She advised me to start visiting our Ibadan family home when I mentioned that I was on campus. I traveled to Ibadan. My housemates were nearly slain by those boys that day.
“For this reason, I value my grandma’s significance in my life. Ignore all we’ve been told about God and realize that he exists. God has frequently intervened to save me, and I say this with my heart open. Because of this, I was able to return twice as tall, as Burna Boy put it.
