In the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, commuters and traders have voiced their worries over the indiscriminate dumping of trash and excrement on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
When one of our reporters visited the area, they found trash placed along some of the road and feces in some of the drainage that serves as a culvert separating the neighborhood from the highway.
Trader Ogechi claimed that the open defecation was being caused by homeless people who hang out along the Ibafo bridge at night.
An anonymous individual complained about how the smell at the auto park upsets passing walkers.
“It’s not right for us to breathe this in every day. It says a lot about how unsafe we are that there are food vendors on the opposite side of the street from this meridian.
“Some residents who are nursing mothers also cross the road and they have to pass the filthy meridian with their babies,” he said.
