Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola shared incredible insight into why Lionel Messi is such a devastating footballer on the pitch.
The 49-year-old Spaniard took full advantage of Messi’s world-class skills at the Camp Nou as he ushered in a trophy-laden era during his four seasons in charge at Barca.
But now the pair could reunite at City as Messi has requested his shock exit from Barcelona and has been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad.
Speaking on the Amazon Prime documentary This Is Football, Guardiola explained why the 33-year-old Argentine superstar was in a league of his own on the pitch.
The former Bayern Munich boss said: “He’s not out of the game. He’s involved. Moving his head. Right, left, left, right.
“He smells who is the weak point of the back four. After five, ten minutes, he has the map.
“He knows if I move here, here, I will have more space to attack. We are contemporary of that guy. So enjoy it. He is so good.”
The clip from the six-part documentary, which aired last August, started to make the rounds on social media and fans loved the admiration Guardiola showed towards Messi.
Twitter user Nana kwesi said: “The passion even a coach speaks with about him.”
While MorakaIS tweeted: “This just shows how Messi is beyond words, more then [sic] a genius.”
A third added: “Stuff i [sic] love to see.”
Messi, who has spent his entire senior career at Barcelona, is reportedly keen on playing for City in the new season.
Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan are amongst the odds-on favourites to sign the six-time Ballon d’Or winner, according to bookies.
Messi admitted in 2018 that he would welcome the idea of a reunion with his former Barcelona manager someday.
