The lack of potable water supply in Makoko, a community in the Yaba Local Government Area of Lagos State, has been bemoaned by the locals.
They claimed they had to travel a great distance on foot to access clean water, and some resorted to paddle or ride motorcycles to carry the water to their homes.
Afeez, a local who only went by his first name, bemoaned the difficulty community members have in getting access to potable water, which has made water retailing a lucrative industry.
The bulk of the community’s boreholes, according to a different resident named Tolulope, are broken, she added, adding that residents’ only remaining alternative is to bring water on bicycles and boats.
