The explosion at an illicit oil refinery in the Ibaa town in the state’s Emuoha Local Government Area resulted in numerous fatalities, according to the Rivers State Police Command, which announced that a thorough investigation had been launched.
According to the Force, pipeline vandalism was the primary cause of the fire, and the investigation was intended to identify the criminals and bring them to justice.

Olufemi Ayodele, the state spokesman for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, had earlier stated in a statement on Monday that 25 injured victims had been rescued while 18 persons had been burned beyond recognition.
However, according to the police, 20 people were injured in the incident that happened on Sunday night, and 15 people perished.
