President Bola Tinubu has been encouraged to quickly submit a 2023 Supplementary Budget to the National Assembly in order to launch his Compressed Natural Gas project by the Senate Committee on Gas, which is chaired by Senator Jarigbe Jarigbe.
This request was made just 48 hours after Tinubu declared plans to ease Nigerians’ suffering as a result of the elimination of fuel subsidies.
The lawmakers argued that extra-budgetary expenditure is against the law.
The committee’s chairman praised Tinubu for the CNG initiative but issued a warning that it would be illegal to fund future projects in the gas value chain, which is less expensive than using fossil fuels, with taxpayer money or without the National Assembly’s consent.
Additionally, the senators cautioned against extra-budgetary spending through Ways and Means, stating that the legislature was prepared to assist and provide relief for the populace.
Jarigbe praised Tinubu for his CNG revolution in vehicle propulsion.
