Super Eagles Striker Makes History After Scoring Twice Against Iwobi’s Everton

Super Eagles striker Josh Maja has made history after scoring twice against Alex Iwobi’s Everton in the Premier League encounter at Goodison on Sunday night.

The 22-year-old Nigeria international moves to Craven Cottages a deadline day on loan from Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux.

But Maja struck a well-worked opener three minutes into the second period for the perfect Fulham welcome on his first start for the club, before doubling the lead just after the hour after Harrison Reed struck the woodwork.

Making his second appearance for Fulham, Maja became the second Nigerian to score a brace on his first Premier League start after former Super Eagles star Efan Ekoku in May 1993.

Maja’s brace helped Fulham pick up their first-ever away win at Everton in league competition, on what was their 28th attempt.

It was indeed a brilliant performance from Maja and has now given Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr, something to think about ahead of next month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The England-born star has not played for Nigeria since he made his debut in the 2019 friendly game against Ukraine, but he could be set for a recall should he maintain this form.
