TOPIC: EDIFYING THE BODY OF CHRIST
TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:11-16
THE KEY VERSE: 
“For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12).
2) THE TEXT:

(EPHESIANS 4: 11 – 16 KJV)
“11. And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12. For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13. Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14. That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15. But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
16. From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.”
3) THE MESSAGE:
i) Apostle Paul revealed that when Jesus ascended into heaven, He gave some believers ministry gifts to function as 

A) Apostles, 

B) Prophets, 

C) Evangelists,

D) Pastors and 

E) Teachers.
ii) These gifts are different from personal spiritual gifts. They are referred to as the five-fold ministry gifts for ministers. 
iii) These gifts, in the church, are for the purposes of 

a) edification, 

b) equipping, 

c) growing and 

d) maturing believers from spiritual babes to mature believers. 

e) They also foster unity among believers. 
iv)

A) AN APOSTLE refers to certain men called directly by Jesus Christ and given special authority to lay doctrinal foundation in the Church.

B) THE PROPHET is gifted to speak unto men’s edification, exhortation and comfort. He also has the supernatural ability to receive and declare revelation from God about future events.

C) THE EVANGELIST is specially gifted to point sinners to Christ and challenge fellow believers to win souls. 

D) THE PASTOR/TEACHER is endowed with the supernatural ability to communicate and clarify the details of God’s word and lead the flock to God. He combines the qualities of a shepherd and extraordinary skills of a trainer. 
v) All teachers may not necessarily be pastors, but all pastors must be teachers. 
vi) God wants His people to grow and come to unity and perfection in Christ. The goal is that all believers in Christ must attain the full stature of Christlikeness and become productive. 
vii) Pray through to receive and experience great revival and blessings, and be a co-labourer with Christ. 
viii) Do not be like the proverbial fool who went and hid his talent rather than profit with it.
4) THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: 
The saved is gifted to serve the Body.
