UK varsities request NUC permission to operate in Nigeria

Officials from the University of Sunderland and the London Academy Business School are currently asking the National Universities Commission for permission to offer degree programs in Nigeria.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, a team from the University of Sunderland, led by Dr. Derek Watson, verified this following a meeting with Chris Maiyaki, interim executive secretary of the NUC, in Abuja.

Watson, an associate professor from the college of business law and tourism, guaranteed that Nigerian students will be held to the same academic standards as their British counterparts, while the management also pledged to respect the NUC’s environment and rules.

The administrator noted that the setting was significantly superior to that of the University of Sunderland in the UK and added that the institution was charged with the duty of developing the skills of public and civil workers.

The institute, according to him, contains a 500-seat auditorium, 12 distinct halls with 30 seats each, dormitories with 202 rooms, a hospital, security quarters, a sports complex, and an entrepreneurial center, among other amenities that would facilitate teaching and learning.
