The acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has received a petition from a woman named Mrs. Dorcas Nwakor of Haruna Street, Odoakpu along Sokoto Road in Onitsha, Anambra State, over the alleged murder of her son, Chibueze, by police officers assigned to the Area Command in Onitsha.
Nwakor said in the appeal made public to Onitsha media on Monday that her only son and father of three, Chibueze, was shot and killed on October 13, 2023, by police officers surrounding his home as he was leaving for work.
Through her attorney, Anayo Emejue and Associates, she petitioned the acting IGP, stating that her son had been shot dead by three police officers without any reason given.
The petitioners characterized the event as the deliberate, non-provocation, and willful killing of a citizen.
“We were told that the three policemen involved in the killing have been detained at the police headquarters in Awka, but when we got to Awka, we saw them moving freely on the streets,” family attorney Anayo Emejue told reporters during a Monday press conference in his office.
