Adeseye Margaret, the director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, acknowledged the occurrence in a statement on Friday and underlined that the prompt action of the firefighters prevented an explosion.
“The fire started in a bungalow consisting of 32 single rooms of various sizes and was ignited by the use of camp gas for cooking at the passage,” stated the statement.
“However, the resulting blaze was put out before it could spread outside of the compound because it only affected 14 of the rooms while saving 18 rooms and other property.
Further inquiry found that the corridor is frequently used as a kitchen with over 15 camp gas, always accelerating the growth of the fire.
The victim, an adult female who started the fire, had first-degree burns but was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Two drivers were saved from a tanker accident on Friday at Mangoro, Agege, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, in a related incident.
