Women protest the murders and kidnapping of the king in Anambra

Thursday, more than a hundred women from the Ogwuaniocha community in Anambra State’s Ogbaru Local Government Area marched through Onitsha and the surrounding areas to express their disapproval of the “constant killings, abductions, and destructions of properties” committed by gunmen in their town.

The women, who were primarily older and in their mid-50s, stated that since “unknown gunmen” operating under the name “Lion Squad” overran their town, at least 20 people had been killed and numerous more have been injured to varying degrees.

They claimed that their monarch, Igwe Oliver Nnaji, had been kidnapped by the “killer” squad in 2021; his whereabouts are still a mystery.

Nkemdilim Onwurah, one of the female leaders, claimed that since last Friday, there have been new attacks by the “Lion Squad,” forcing residents to leave the area.
